Program Focus and Management: The Initiation Programs, Learn To Play Wild (LTPW) and Wild Mites, are designed to introduce children to the sport of hockey while developing skating, puck handling (such as passing, receiving, and shooting), and team skills. There is also an emphasis on learning about hockey and having fun in a team-oriented environment.
A committee of HHA Board members and coaches from this level provide oversight and management for Learn To Play and Wild Mites.
- Must play one year of Learn To Play and be at least 6 years old by December 31, in order to register for Wild Mites. Additional info for Wild Mites house program can be found by clicking on "Information" under the "Mites" tab. CLICK HERE
LEARN TO PLAY WILD Overview (LTPW): This program is for all players ages 4-8 (age as of December 31) with no or limited previous hockey experience. We ask that LTPW players have enough skating ability to balance on their skates and move forward on the ice without assistance.
Many children participate in the LTPW program for two years, particularly younger skaters. If the LTPW head coach and the Initiations Committee believes that it is appropriate to move a player up to Wild Mites house league program during the year (generally older players who demonstrate sufficient skill), they will discuss this with the child’s parent no later than early December.
The on-ice sessions will feature an active clinic-style approach with lots of hands-on coaching and instruction. There will be three separate sessions, so players can register for all three, or just one or two sessions. Registration for each session is open all year.
LTPW Schedule: LTPW is broken into three separate sessions. Players can register for any session at any time. Practices are generally on Saturday and Sundays at 8am-9am at the Campion Rink in Hanover. For those who have conflicts on a certain day, or a weekend, that is never a problem at the LTPW level.
ALL LTPW players skate together at EVERY LTPW practice.
Session start dates for LTPW:
Session 1- Saturday, October 27th to Sunday, December 9th (no skate 11/24 or 11/25); on ice at 8:10 am
Session 2- Saturday, December 15th to January 20th
Session 3- Saturday, January 26th to March 3rd
Yead-End JAMBOREE March 2017 (open to all 2017-18 LTPW players)
Fees: HHA has developed a fee structure that reflects the projected enrollment and costs of the programs. Each player will receive a Hanover Hockey LTPW jersey. In addition to these fees, all players must be registered with USA Hockey before skating in any HHA program. This annual registration fee is $35, which is waived by USA Hockey for players aged 6 and under.
