Scheduling

The process of procuring ice times and distributing those times to the various HHA programs starts during the summer months. Each rink will provide ice times to HHA or they will hold meetings in which we negotiate with other programs for ice times. The process happens sequentially as each rink's planning schedule and timeframes vary. Click here for more details about the different rinks and their planning cycles.

Revised (9/14/11, passed at 9/13/11 board meeting)
Revised Scheduling Guidelines, September 2011

Overview: To more closely follow USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), HHA will include approximately 10 sessions dedicated solely to skills development in travel team practice schedules.  These sessions will be scheduled throughout the season and coordinated by the ADM and Coaching Coordinators with input from the Scheduler. During the weeks in which a skills session is scheduled teams will have additional team practices (led by the team’s coaches) that are consistent with USA Hockey’s ADM age-appropriate guidelines.

Frequency: HHA’s scheduling goal is to provide each travel team with at least two practice ice sessions per week and games on the weekends.  To ensure that each team has their allotted weekday ice sessions, while meeting our skills sessions goals during the season, teams will usually share the ice with another team, and occasionally two other teams (for a total of three teams on the ice).  Coaches will need to plan and cooperate accordingly. When teams do not have a full complement of weekend games they may be scheduled for a weekend practice provided there is home ice available.

HHA will continue to investigate ice scheduling options that allow the organization to approach age-appropriate ADM guidelines for ice touches while keeping an appropriate balance of practices and games.
